Several different types of cheese are being recalled due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The cheese comes from Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op in Ohio, whose organic Gouda, Cheddar, Swiss, Monterey Jack and more were distributed to retailers in Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Texas.
The cheeses were sold to distributors between July 7 and August 14, 2025, and were sold to dining halls and retail stores, in addition to distributors. Infections of Listeria monocytogenes (listeriosis) can be very serious or even fatal for individuals who are pregnant, immunocompromised or for young children and older adults. Some symptoms can include high fever, headache, nausea and diarrhea, and anyone experiencing these symptoms who may have listeriosis should contact their health care provider immediately.
The contamination was discovered on finished product and cutting equipment after testing was done by the company. While no illnesses have been reported, anybody in possession of recalled products should dispose of them or return it to the retail location where it was purchased for a full refund.
