Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is having a pretty busy week. It’s officially NFL season, so the reigning Super Bowl champ is gearing up for the first Thursday night football game—against the Eagles’ division rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, no less. As Offensive Player of the Year, Barkley has also found himself at the center of multiple projects, from the cover of Madden NFL 26 to a leading man in Little Caesars and Pepsi campaigns. Plus, this week, the running back was named the No. 1 player in the NFL, as voted on by his peers.
So, with such a busy schedule, of course, Barkley opts for a quick meal from a fast food chain every now and then—and his fast food restaurant of choice is a Philadelphia staple.
Saquon Barkley’s Go-To Fast Food Order
By now, we’re never surprised to learn that a Super Bowl-winning athlete enjoys a fast food burger, but that’s not Barkley’s go-to. Instead, he heads to a Pennsylvania classic for his fast food: Wawa.
Wawa is a convenience store with locations across the East Coast, known for its made-to-order food, especially the hoagies. So, as a PA guy through and through—Barkley grew up in the Lehigh Valley and went to school at Penn State—of course, the football player loves a Wawa hoagie.
In fact, he loves one hoagie so much that Wawa named it after him. Barkley’s go-to Wawa hoagie, now affectionately named “The Saquon,” features oven-roasted turkey, American cheese, lettuce, onion, and spicy mustard.
Only a select handful of NFL players know the feeling of having their fast food order named after them, including J.J. Watt’s J.J.’s Way meal at Culver’s and Drew Brees’ The Brees #9 sub at Jimmy John’s. And, much like those meals, Barkley’s “The Saquon” hoagie at Wawa won’t keep that name forever. However, the good thing about Wawa’s made-to-order menu is that you—and Barkley—can customize a turkey sub to your liking at any time.
So, even long after the Eagles finish their season, you can still eat like Barkley. And, hey, you might even see him ordering the same thing at a Philly Wawa, if you’re lucky.
