Nothing gets by Aldi shoppers. Whether it’s a new budget-friendly piece of cookware or a dinner the whole family will love, the store’s devoted fans keep a close eye on products, ensuring they never miss a thing.
Recently, shoppers noticed one of their favorite breakfast condiments had a different taste. A closer look revealed that the ingredient list changed—and customers are not happy.
Millville Original Pancake Syrup Now Contains Sucralose
Imagine this: You whip up a batch of your family’s favorite pancakes and cover them in a generous pouring of Millville Original Pancake Syrup from Aldi. You expect a pleasantly sweet, familiar bite. Instead, you are met with an unexpected taste.
A closer look at the bottle reveals a change in the recipe. On the front, yellow letters now read “No High Fructose Corn Syrup,” which was previously the syrup’s second largest ingredient—and that’s not the only thing that’s different.
Shoppers were surprised to find that the pantry staple now contains sucralose, an artificial sweetener often found in the lite and sugar-free versions of food products. It’s important to note that although the updated Aldi Millville Syrup now contains an artificial sweetener, sugar remains near the top of the syrup’s ingredient list.
In a recent Reddit thread, Aldi customers discussed the change. One person felt that the addition of sucralose should be indicated on the front more clearly. Others called out how similar the updated bottle looks to the previous version.
“The bottle at a glance looks no different, even continuing to call it original. I guess so it isn’t confused with the butter, or lite varieties,” commented one Redditor. “They do put the statement about no corn syrup right on the center of the label, so I’ll give them that.”
Beyond flavor, some shoppers expressed disappointment in the use of the sweetener, citing potential side effects. “Sucralose? Ugh. Now I won’t be able to use Aldi pancake syrup anymore. Sucralose gives me absolutely heinous migraines,” one user wrote.
At this time, we don’t know if this product will see a larger rollout or if it’s limited to select locations. I checked my nearest Aldi and did not find the new version in stock. If you prefer the original pancake syrup, be sure to stock up while you can, or consider swapping it for Aldi’s Specially Selected Pure Maple Syrup, which contains only pure maple syrup. Alternatively, you can make a batch of pancake syrup at home in just ten minutes.
