    • Meghan Trainor addresses online hate over weight loss with her new single “Still Don’t Care.”
    • The singer’s fitness journey began after developing gestational diabetes during pregnancy.
    • Trainor promotes health, strength and self-acceptance in a recent interview.

Pop star Meghan Trainor’s career took off in 2014 when her body-positive debut single “All About That Bass” topped the Billboard Hot 100 and sold millions of copies worldwide. Since then, Trainor has been in the public eye for many reasons, from her various other hits to her  personal life and appearances.

But 11 years later, Trainor’s body is being inspected under a microscope as she admits she has undergone a “fitness and health journey” that has caused her to lose weight. While her music helped spark a movement toward self-acceptance, the same listeners that celebrated her message have recently criticized her appearance. This is why the singer came out with her newest single, “Still Don’t Care” to combat the “hate” she has been receiving this year due to her weight loss.

“I’m getting a lot of hate online just posting who I am. Everyone’s being like, ‘Why’re you thin now? Like, you were ‘All About That Bass’ girl,’” Trainor shared in a recent radio interview with 102.7 Kiss FM. “I was 19 when I came out with that song, and I’ve been on a fitness journey since I got healthy.”

Trainor explains that a diagnosis caused her to shift her health goals, which led to her weight loss.

“It started with when I was pregnant, I had gestational diabetes,” Trainor explains. “And I was like, ‘Oh, I got to learn about health and fitness, and I want to tour forever, I got to be at my strongest.”

Since developing gestational diabetes when she was pregnant, Trainor has since prioritized nutrition and exercise in her lifestyle, saying that she incorporates strength training three times a week into her routine. She also hints that her eating habits revolve around gut-healthy ingredients, and her hormone health remains essential for her goals.

“I just want to feel good, because this job is hard to do if you don’t feel good,” she said. “But I got a lot of hate for being thinner, so that confused me and rattled me.”

With a gestational diabetes diagnosis, Trainor was more susceptible to developing type 2 diabetes. So on an April 2025 episode of her family’s podcast Workin’ On It, Trainor revealed that she does take Mounjaro, a GLP-1 medication, which aided in her seemingly rapid weight loss. But it’s clear that Trainor is also taking measures to promote muscle growth and implement a nutrient-rich diet in her everyday life.

Through it all, Trainor remains unapologetic about her choices, saying that she uses songs like “All About That Bass” and “Still Don’t Care” to “manifest what I think in the future.” Commenting on someone’s weight unwarranted is never OK, and Trainor’s message is a reminder that we should value character over appearances.
