    • This easy appetizer calls for only three ingredients.
    • These spirals provide folate, potassium and vitamin K, thanks to spinach and artichokes.
    • You can make and freeze the spirals up to one month ahead.

These Spinach-Artichoke Puff Pastry Spirals are the easiest appetizer you could make. Made with just three ingredients, crisp layers of pastry wrap around spinach-artichoke dip for a handheld appetizer that can be popped into the oven right before guests arrive. These spirals have the crowd-pleasing balance of flaky, melty and savory goodness. Ready to see for yourself? Read on for our best tips and tricks for pulling together this easy appetizer for your next party.

Tips from the EatingWell Test Kitchen

These are the key tips we learned while developing and testing this recipe in our Test Kitchen to make sure it works, tastes great and is good for you too!

    • Puff pastry bakes best when it’s cold. If the dough starts feeling soft while you’re working with it, pop it back in the fridge for 5 to 10 minutes before rolling or slicing.
    • Leave at least 2 inches between the spirals on the baking sheet to prevent steam buildup, which can cause sogginess instead of crisp, flaky layers.

    Nutrition Notes

    • Spinach-and-artichoke dip can be high in calories when you are buying premade, so look for options that are around 60 calories per 2-tablespoon serving. Choosing versions made with strained (Greek-style) yogurt can help reduce calories while upping the calcium content. Both the spinach and the artichokes found in these dips contain folate, potassium and vitamin K.
    • Egg used for the egg wash will add a small amount of vitamin B12, vitamin D and choline, thanks to the nutrient-rich egg yolk.
    • Puff pastry is low in nutritional value, though it does contain some protein. Filling the puff pastry with a fat source, like the spinach-and-artichoke dip, can make for a more satisfying app.
