The Bakery Behind Trader Joe’s Best-Selling Kringles Has a New Flavor for a Limited Time

Despite having hundreds of store-branded products for customers to enjoy, one of Trader Joe’s best-selling products is actually from a small Danish bakery in a small town in Wisconsin. Danish kringles are a regional treat that has become increasingly popular across the country, thanks in no small part to Trader Joe’s.

Kringles have layers and layers of flaky, buttery dough that are either filled or topped with a variety of jams, frostings, curds, and more. Almond Kringle, arguably the most popular flavor, is a very classic option, but there are many other varieties, including pumpkin, cheesecake, raspberry (my personal favorite), whiskey, and more. It’s a sweet treat that’s balanced enough to eat for breakfast, but indulgent enough to enjoy for dessert.

Now, O&H, the company behind Trader Joe’s popular kringles, is offering a brand new kringle just in time for the holidays. And for fans missing flavors of holidays yore, O&H is bringing two of those back, too.

O&H Debuts New Holiday Tipsy Elf Kringle

O&H, the famous Danish bakery from Racine, Wisconsin, just announced the release of the latest holiday treat, the Tipsy Elf Kringle. This limited-edition flavor is available now through Dec. 31 exclusively on the O&H website.

The “tipsy” part of this treat comes from the Irish whisky. It’s combined with cocoa and cream to create a sweet, chocolaty filling that’s stuffed between layers of flaky pastry. The whole thing is topped with a creamy frosting and red and green sprinkles—a great addition to a Christmas Eve or Christmas Day breakfast spread.

“Each year, we’re excited to debut a new Kringle that reflects the holiday traditions that define O&H Danish Bakery. Tipsy Elf Kringle was inspired by the cheeky elves who might be the only ones busier than a baker during the holidays,” said Peter Olesen, president and fourth-generation co-owner of O&H Danish Bakery, in a press release. “We’re honored to be part of seasonal celebrations and gift giving across the country.”

In addition to the debut of the Tipsy Elf, O&H Danish Bakery is bringing back two beloved kringle flavors: Apricot Sugar Kringle and Eggnog Kringle—both available for a limited time.

Apricot Sugar Kringle features a Mediterranean apricot filling topped with coarse sugar and shaved almonds. One fan said the flavor was perfect. “Light, flaky with just the right amount of heavenly apricot filling,” shared the reviewer. “The coarse sugar topping gave it a delightful crunch without being too sweet. We will be waiting for this one to come back around!”

The Eggnog Kringle is similarly beloved. It features 36 layers of flaky pastry with a smooth, creamy custard made with O&H’s homemade eggnog. It’s topped with a layer of frosting and sprinkled with gingersnap cookie pieces.

All three of these seasonal sensations are only available for a limited time. Make them a part of your holidays by ordering ahead of time. They freeze fabulously—just don’t forget to thaw them the night before digging in!
