I’ve probably baked more desserts in the last month than I did all year long. To make the most out of the holidays, my family spent our break in the kitchen making batches of chocolate crinkle cookies, gingerbread, and brownies. But now that the season has come to a close, I’m ready to hang up the apron for a bit. Luckily, our favorite retailers don’t mind doing the heavy lifting and keep the shelves filled with a variety of crowd-pleasing goodies.
Recently, a chocolatey new treat popped up in the Costco bakery, and it’s already getting rave reviews from shoppers.
Costco’s Brownie Walnut Pie
Costco is kicking off the new year with an indulgent new bakery addition: the Brownie Walnut Pie. The dessert features a dense brownie baked in a sweet graham crust. Each is topped with chocolate ganache and toasted walnuts for added crunch.
The pie costs just under $22, which, though it may sound steep, is a great deal considering it weighs in at just under four pounds. We can see this being a great option for potlucks and dinner parties. Not to mention, it’s the perfect Valentine’s Day dessert to feed a crowd.
On Instagram, @costcohotfinds shared a video highlighting the thick, fudgy slices, and shoppers raced to the comment section to share their excitement. “This is a chocolate lover’s dream,” exclaimed one user. “I’ll take 20 Brownie Walnut Pies,” another replied while another wrote, “Sold! Warm it up with some ice cream on top, delicious!”
But not everyone is thrilled with the new bakery item: “Walnuts have no place in baked goods,” stated one person whose comment received over a hundred likes. Others mentioned that the price and size were deterrents. “Love it, but wish they could make some smaller sizes. It’s always just way too much and then becomes so wasteful,” one person noted.
The good news is that you can easily whip up your own version of the pie at home. You can start with our brownie pie recipe, which uses simple ingredients from your pantry and fridge. Then, you can choose to make the flaky pie crust as written or swap it for a graham cracker crust, just like the one at Costco.
From there, you can add your own inclusions, such as chocolate chips, crushed cookie pieces, and candy. Plus, you’ll have the final say on whether the recipe includes nuts. The pie comes together in just over two hours, and you might already have the ingredients in your pantry—sounds like a win to us. Whether you choose to make your own or pick one up at Costco, there’s no doubt it will be delicious.
