I used to spend way too much time sawing everything by hand. Wood, PVC, copper pipe—I can’t explain it, I had some weird purist obsession with breaking out the hand tools and sweating my butt off. When I finally broke down and bought a reciprocating saw, my life changed: It cut everything, quickly, and I was able to get so much more done.
But a full-size, two-handed power hacksaw can be too bulky for some jobs—jobs when you have to hold something with one hand while you cut, or jobs when you’re squished into a tight spot and don’t have a lot of room to position a larger tool. I’ve had to work in some pretty cramped spaces in my small house, and having this as an option when the bigger tools are awkward has made a lot of projects not just easier, but possible in the first place.
