One drawback of seasonal produce is that you only have a brief window to enjoy the harvest. From summer’s zucchini and tomatoes to winter’s cozy root vegetables and bright citrus, the seasonality means we’ll cherish our favorites while they’re in season.
We’ve already been raving about the splurge-worthy Sumo oranges, which were spotted at the beginning of January. But there’s another seasonal fruit that has Redditors in a chokehold, and it’s finally back.
Trader Joe’s Kishu Kisses Seedless Kishu Mandarins Return to Shelves
Yet another delicious citrus fruit is hitting shelves at Trader Joe’s. This time around, it’s the Kishu Kisses Seedless Mandarins, which are described as “intensely sweet and highly snackable.”
The Kishu Mandarins are small but refreshing, with each fruit measuring 1 to 2 inches in diameter. Sold in 1-pound bags, the popular seedless mandarins are only available for a short time each winter and sell out quickly.
On Reddit, devoted fans shared their love for the tiny citrus. One Trader Joe’s shopper wrote, “I am obsessed! I ate so many last year and was at TJ’s tonight and saw they were back and said, ‘Oh hell yeah’ out loud and grabbed two bags.”
If you’re wondering what makes these mandarin oranges so tasty, the flavor profile is one of the main reasons. “They are the perfect blend of sweet and tart,” explained a Reddit user.
One downside that fans pointed out was the price. At $4.99, some thought the price of mandarin oranges was steep for a pound of fruit: “Are they cheaper this year? Haven’t been willing to try them at the price point they were last year.”
On the other hand, some fans are so obsessed with the fruit that they opted to purchase a whole tree. “Last year, they had a very short period of availability. So I bought a tree. Now I just have to wait another year or two…”
Besides eating the fruit raw, the sweet, juicy citrus works well in many recipes if you can get a bag. Try incorporating them into dessert recipes like our Mandarin Orange Cake or go savory with our Mandarin Chicken Pasta Salad.
However you decide to enjoy the Kishu Kisses Seedless Mandarins, there’s one thing to remember: supply and demand. With so many fans dreaming of the fruit, you’ll want to visit Trader Joe’s as soon as possible to try and get your hands on a bag.
