As a California native living in the New York City area, there are quite a few West Coast chains I crave on a weekly (if not daily) basis. While I’ll settle for Starbucks over The Coffee Bean and can finally get my Raising Cane’s fix whenever I’m in New York, I am still constantly praying for In-N-Out to expand past the Mississippi River. Luckily, though, my homesick foodie heart has an extra reason to celebrate, since a beloved Los Angeles brand is opening its doors in New York City for the first time ever.
Randy’s Donuts Opens New York City Location
After decades on the West Coast, Los Angeles-based bakery Randy’s Donuts is officially heading east. On Dec. 9, the chain opened its easternmost location yet in New York City, marking a major milestone for the brand.
Founded in 1952, the legendary LA-born donut shop is known for its handmade treats, countless pop culture cameos, and, of course, the world-famous giant donut sign that’s an iconic addition to the Inglewood skyline. After decades of availability solely in the West (save for one storefront in Atlanta, Georgia), Randy’s is appealing to fans eager for nostalgic, handmade desserts with its official debut in New York City.
Since the flagship store opened in California over 70 years ago, the business has expanded to locations across Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona. The donut chain has even expanded into international markets, with availability in South Korea, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and Japan. The chain’s newest location, though, is its first on the East Coast.
Opening in Manhattan, Randy’s new location will bring New Yorkers an iconic taste of Los Angeles without leaving The Big Apple. In true Randy’s fashion, the new store features more than 35 donut varieties, including donut shop staples, such as glazed and sprinkled donuts, Long Johns, Apple Fritters, the signature Randy’s Rounds (aka the chain’s oversized donut holes, and one of my all-time favorite bites), and more.
In addition to the baked treats, the New York City store also offers a full menu of coffee drinks—because what’s a donut without a cup of joe to pair with it?
If you’re in New York City and want to check out Randy’s for yourself, you can stop by the first East Coast location at 185 Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village. Personally, I can’t get an Apple Fritter and a half-dozen of glazed Randy’s Rounds fast enough.
